We are a fellowship from different social classes and ages, all united by the same passion, the same quest, the same old or modern valors and traditions. Our lives echo from the beats of our desires and inspirations. Our choices define the direction and the steps we would carved in our path. Only our actions, not our words, would reveal our fate. So, we only possessed what we have conscience of.

We trail the path of the warrior.

Ancient Battles is illustrated with full range photographs and images to represent details from the life of those long gone ages. It is our great interest to hope that these reconstitutions would provide help to the historians, the scholars or generally speaking, anyone searching for better understanding of those past times.

Even if the battles principally retain our attention, we also organize festivities involving music, storytales and athletic contests. These athletic contests, called games, always raise a great enthusiasm in the spectators as in the protagonists hearts. They are devided in four modalities: the "HOPLITAI" run (HOPLITODRÓMEIA), the disc throwing (DISKOBOLEIA), the javelin throwing (AICHMÉIA), the free fighting (PANKRASOS) and the duels (MONOMAKHIA).

BUT IF YOU WANT TO LIVE FOR A DAY UNDER THE MIGHT OF ANCIENT GREECE OR TO WALK UNDER THE LIGHTS OF THE PERSIAN EMPIRE WHATEVER YOUR AGE OR YOUR CONDITION, WE WELCOME YOU... BROTHERS.

In that case we accept the young ones, women and grandfathers as civilians.

 As a scholar of ancient history and life, hungry for adventure and always seeking new challenges, Andria gave birth to Ancient Battles. Early in his life, he began the studies of ancient and medieval swordmanship. A decade later, he also felt in love for the Chinese martial-arts. Today as "Maître d'armes", his knowledge and his constant dedication to studies and practices form the perfect alliance that sustains and gives roots to Ancient Battles.

His love for the ancient ways, make him embrace our bretheren; and so Pedro "the Greek" became a true warrior. His amazing abilities to find anything needed rely on his resourceful happy and righteous nature.

ANCIENT BATTLES is structured in a safe didatic way. The trainings involve teachings about patterns and technics, both including:

- Spear, sword and shield
- Axe
- Broadsword and dagger
- Bow and arrow and sling also.

The battles train the strategies and the tactics form the different armies of that period. But, we also revive the ancient life, the old ways of our founding fathers civilization.

 

HISTORICAL PERIOD

The historical chosen period goes as far as 600 B.C. to 400 B.C., since the apis of the Greeks city-states and the hegemony of the Persian Empire to the retreat of Xenephon and his ten thousand after the Peloponnesian wars. We also look into the timeline of the Ionian Greek coastline cities and the ancient Phrygian and Lydian realms, today located in modern Turkey and its back country.

ANCIENT BATTLES does not necessary look for an exact classical theme revival, but rather inspire itself form a strategical and epical sense for its reconstitution.

 

RULES

Ancient Battles follows strict and precise rules, appealling in that sense the righteousness and the honesty of each practitioner. The elevation of our moral and physical virtues gives to ANCIENT BATTLES its letters of nobility.

The rules define two distinct armies with their different corps and ranks, as well as all the logistic establishment going with them. Our objective remains to be as authentical and realistic as possible.
